Paddle Tail

Writing Paddle Tail--the childrens story about the adorable little beaver born without a tail--was truely fun for me. I've always been interested in beavers--the way they build their houses, and dams. As I thought about writing the story I wondered what could be one of the worst things that could happen to a beaver...I came up with Paddle Tail being born without a tail. Where I grew up--out in the country--I spent a lot of time down at an old duck pond. There wasn't any beaver living in the shallow muddy pond but that didn't stop my imagination. The winter time was especially mystical to me at the pond, with the tall lumps of grass heaped over and coverd with snow. They reminded me so much of a beaver houses and that's where Paddle Tail's story began for me. I've since added a story titled Paddle Tail's First Winter Adventure, and the next story in the series is Paddle Tail's First Day at School--not yet published.
